Code:
[C:\]dir /b /s everyting.*
C:\ZZ_DoneSorted\CSV_0001\everyting.csv

[C:\]alias every*
TCC: Not an alias "every*"

5) tcmd doesn't appear in programs list
6) files still in c:\program files\jpsoft\
7) followoing keys appear
a) HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\JP Software\Search And Replace
b) HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\JP Software\Take Command 30 LE
c) HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\JP Software\Take Command 31

Any ideas?

I would say "uninstall, reboot, and reinstall." But it looks like you've already tried that.

1) should I remove the files in "C:\Program Files\JPSoft\TCMD31" - should I remove those and what about 7a to c above? should I remove b and c at least?

after renaming the TCMD31 folder to TCMD31_Backup, turning off the PC, etc, then installing the b22, This is the message I get now...

This installer and/or the Windows Installer Service is a pile of mess:

tcc-installer.jpg

TCC-update-error.jpg

What I do is close tcc.exe, start cmd.exe to run this newly downloaded
c:\ProgramData\JP Software\TCC 31\updates\Update\tcc.exe (60 MByte)

Go through all the installer steps, including inserting my activation-key I got by email.
Works for me, but awkward.

Anyone know what the 38-character product code is and is it the same for all builds of TCMD v31? @rconn ??

Might be these 38-character subkey names.

Those correspond roughly to these 38-character subdirectory names.

I have one per major version. I wouldn't mess with them.

Earlier you said you renamed the TCMD31 folder and then it couldn't be uninstalled. That seems like no surprise.

Are you trying to uninstall from here?

Another solution could be - MAKE BACKUP FIRST AND TRY AT OWN RISK - to remove it completely manually - means: remove all related files for example in:

  • program dir
  • in AppData\Local dir
  • AppData\Roaming dir
  • in ProgramData dir
and remove also all related RegKeys

Then try to install it again ...

@vefatica - what search terms did you use to find these ?
REGFIND.EXE is a program that I wrote. It's hard to use. I issued this and edited out a few non-apropos results.

Code:
regfind all /D F518F6ED-CEA1-433F-BE6C-6DBA08F8DFD0 & regfind all /K F518F6ED-CEA1-433F-BE6C-6DBA08F8DFD0

That is, look for case-insensitive matches in data (/D) and then in key names (/K). Here's REGFIND's syntax.

Code:
REGFIND hive[\key[\...]] | all [/W] [/N] ...

        ... [/D [filter]] [/v|/V [filter]] [/k|/K [filter]] [/t|/T [filter]]

    hive = khcr | hkcu | hklm | hku

The default matching for key, value, and data filters is case-insensitive substring matching

/w - (or /W) use wildcard (simple, * and ?) matching instead of the default
Specify this option before specifying any filters

    At least one of /d, /D, /v, /V, /k, /K, /T must be specified

    /d - (or /D) search data

/v - limit data search to value names matching filter
/V - also search for and print matching value names

/k - limit value/data searches to key names matching filter
/K - also search for and print matching key names

/t - limit value/data searches to keys with write time matching time filter and output times
         time format: USER_DEFAULT_SHORT_DATE<space>USER_DEFAULT_TIME
use /tm for milliseconds, /tu for microseconds

    /T - only output key names and write times; overrides /d, /D, /k, /K, /v, /V, and /N
time format as above; filter matching respects the /W (/w) option
use /Tm for milliseconds, /Tu for microseconds

/n - (or /N) limit data searches to numbers; use decimal or hex with "0x"

       - The default filters match all ("*" for wildcards, "" for substring)

       - REG_DWORD and REG_QWORD searches are exact; use decimal or hex with 0x

       - "quote" key names and filters containing whitespace

       - Requested output (/K, /V, /d, /D) is prefixed with '*'
