Minor OE issue with new fora

The issue below is probably a weakness in OE's message rule implementation.

I use "message rules" in OE to have all messages moved to their respective
NG folder. I do not allow the rules to mark messages "read". In my display,
I show all messages, and normally I have them sorted by time of receipt (not
threaded). This works as intended.

When I switch to a folder whose contents are manually moved there, or to a
newsgroup folder, the cursor is moved to the message I displayed on my last
visit of the folder, and newer messages are below that. However, when I
switch to a folder loaded by message rules with messages since my last
visit, the last received message is selected. To locate the first unread
message I have to navigate; during this time the last message might change
from "unread" to "read".

I don't understand how this is related to the new forums.

I think that the "issue" is that folks are trying to write E-Mail
handling rules using the "subject" rather than the "from" part of the
mail header. I'm not having issues with sorting JPSoft support E-Mails
using the "from" and having one rule have several "OR" conditions -
one for each of the forums that I've subscribed to.

One thing that I haven't implemented (at least not yet) is having a
separate rule and folder for each of the different forums, which would
further segregate the messages. This would be easy to implement with
the "new" format because Rex has set up separate forums but would be
somewhat difficult with the sparklist format because there was only
one support forum.

The bottom line - folks you may want to use the "from" part of the
message header rather than the "subject" part of the message header.

The old ones did not require message rules to be delivered to their
respective folders, and the "last accessed" message, where the cursor is
positioned, was the one I last read. The new ones the cursor goes to the
last received message, not the last read message. A difference in what I
need to do to pick up where I left off.

That's how I did it from the first time I set up rules. The problem is the
difference in OE's behavior when messages are put into a folder
automatically be message rules vs. nntp: folders or unsorted messages in the
IN folder.

I just discovered a very easy way to perform this type of navigation. In
OE's View menu, there's an option called Next Unread whose shortcut key is
ctrl-u. It turns out that this command will wrap around. So if you enter
the folder and find yourself at the bottom, just press ctrl-u and you'll
immediately be at the first unread message.
