Console editor for TCC12

Can someone suggest a text editor that will run _in a console window_ under Win7 / TC12x64, including instance in several tabs?

I've tried some of the usual suspects, e.g. TCE, UltraEdit, Boxer, and they can be invoked from the console and run fine in their own, separate window. vim will run in a TCC console, although instances multiple instances of vim in separate tabs have been unstable, complaining of shared swap space. Also vim just plain doesn't blow my skirt up.

Maybe, there's a non-16 bit text editor that works under Win7? BoxerDOS / Win XP Pro / TCC11 was a very nice working environment. But yesterday's gone. Thanks in advance.

If you feel seriously nostalgic, try the Thomson-Davis Editor:

It runs inside the console window. And looks like WordStar ...

Lugaru's Epsilon looks like it does. I just opened it in two console tabs under Windows 7, TCC12 64 bit.

Yes it does; thanks very much.

I tried tde also; very nostalgic. Regret my misspent youth. But tde-dos32 throws the usual 16-won't-work warning in my Win7 / TC12 console, and tde-win when invoked in the console i) freezes it, and ii) starts a spectacular high speed strobing between the tde splash page and the normal console. But maybe it works for you in this environment? Thanks.

I run it only in the TCC window, where it seems to work quite nicely.

Sorry for ignoring TCMD proper, but the console window is all I usually work with. Just haven't found a need yet for that complex environment ...

P.S.

Just tried it in TCMD, and it run, but didn't show in the console window, or anywhere else. Just in the background. Too bad.

I haven't found a need for the GUI interface yet! either
"I like it black and simple like my coffee 4NTv8 :)" does anyone remember XTREE
GOLD!

Some if not most; of the functions in the later versions are re-producible via
hand written "functions"
Ruby/Perl calls makes 4nt/tcc/tc very unique.

I Love the product! thank you Rex / Jpsoftware... you da man!

After all that I'd still look at the Newer versions of 4nt/tcmd love it!!!

I think that this maybe the granddaddy of them all, IBM Personal Editor, I think that it was release at about the same time as DOS 2.0. One of the great things about it was that it supported column mode editing!

PE is still out there and can be found at http://www.pe32.com/index.html and it runs in the console as well.

I use the Semware Editor Professional under WinXP in Console Windows.
Semware sold this editor in two versions, a gui version and an console
version. Both are 32bit apps. I don't now, if it will run in a 64bit
console - but why not? You can find the TSE Pro Console v4.4 for Windows
Test-Drive (text mode version) here:
http://www.semware.com/files/testdrive/tsecon44.zip

Product info from the SemWare website:

The SemWare Editor Professional (TSE Pro) has been designed for the
professional programmer. It includes a macro programming language that
allows you to tap into the editor itself to extend the editor's features
and to simplify complex editing tasks. Its virtual memory capacity
allows you to edit very large files. And its configuration facilities
allow you to customize many facets of the editor's behavior.

TSE Pro is available for Windows (95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP/Vista/Windows 7)
and also for DOS.

I love this editor and I hope, it works well for you, too?

TSE looks very nice -- but I can't get it to run in a Win7Pro / TC12 console.

BTW, my earlier comments about instability of vmi in this environment may have been premature. The native 64-bit build of vmi 7.2,
appears to run very nicely in multiple TC12 console tabs. Why I didn't have the same results w/ vim7.2 is beyond my pay grade.
