I hope this isn't too far off topic, please smack me down if it is, but do you guys have any advice on a Winders compatible file compare utility? There's so many utilities that I need to upgrade from my faithful old DOS standbys and this is maybe the most important. So far, looking at WinMerge, DiffMerge, KDiff3, CSDiff, ExamDiff.

So many to choose from, so little good advice.

To determine whether or not two files are identical you can use the variable
function @COMPARE[]. For most of my own work when I want to know the
differences between textfiles I just use the old MS utility FC.EXE bundled
with Windows. Yes, occasionally I'd like a better one.

Well, that is about to change :)

Personally I use vsdiff and vsmerge that come with the Slickedit code editor. If I didn't have those, I'd go with Beyond Compare. Yes, it's buyware - TANSTAAFL

So far, the only software I've ever bought is TC, everything else has been freeware or hand-me-down -- so I'm hangin' in there for a no-cost solution, but tx anyway.
