AVG free 8.0 and takecmd.dll (b64)

Anyone else seeing AVG twigging on takecmd.dll? I was trying to update to the new b64 and had the devil of a time until I tried to directly access the file and got a popup from AVG. Even using the "administrative" threat removal, I couldn't do anything.

Many of us, me included, had problems with false alarms from AVG. The
simplest solution is to use AVG's own features to stop it from scaning the
V10 installation directory. You need to do that manually by opening the AVG
control panel. I'd forgotten the rest of the steps...

Actually, the simplest solution is to discard AVG (I've had enough false positives to warrant it) and go with a different solution that may have a better track record.

I'd been considering it; now I'm doing it.

I'm using AVG 8.5 free; I'd switch to another FREE program if I were aware
of one with a good reputation. I am sick of programs advertised as "free
download" when using it in any meaningful way is NOT free. Cf. JPsoft
products which make it clear they have "free trial period".

I have had good luck with Avast. You do have to register within 60
days for the free registration code, and they do try to push the pay
version, but it has been solid for me.

Yes. This has been an all-to-frequent problem with AVG and has led me to
dump it from my system. As I wrote in an earlier posting, anti-virus
software has been responsible for far more problems with my computer
than viruses have. I've gone through at least three rounds with AVG
technical support over another issue, and I'm tired of wasting my time.
