How to? Archive Installer

Is there any way to update my installation w/o using the installer (like extracting the new files from an archive)?

I'm not very fond of shell integration etc., just need to replace my then "old" files.

The last I heard, such installation was possible but emphatically not supported.

Absolutely not supported or recommended. (We used to, and it was a support nightmare -- users were gleefully obliterating their systems, and then blaming us when they didn't follow instructions. And the "advanced" users were by far the worst!)

But if you're determined to hurl yourself off the precipice (and you don't care about the critical registry updates that the installer performs), Google "msiexec". (And I will not respond to any further questions, complaints, or wails of despair.)
